The Fund welcomes applications for
- adventurous activities, from individuals or groups
- equipment to enable adventurous activities – see note below
- adult training directly enabling adventure
As a Scouting based fund, we prioritise applications supporting Scout based adventures. However, we may also make occasional modest grants to non-Scouting groups that meet our criteria, such as Duke of Edinburgh’s award participants.
Our grants are typically around £50 to £400. We do not means-test applications.
Checklist
- Your application has a clear adventure focus.
- Applications for activity funding enable participation in a worthwhile and character building adventurous activity.
- All participants are aged under 25 years old.
- There is an appropriate connection to the Fund’s catchment area: south-west Sheffield and adjoining Derbyshire areas.
- You are aware that our maximum grant is up to 50% of the full cost.
- The activity is yet to take place. We are unable to fund past activities.

Applications for Equipment
The Fund aims to maximise the benefit of its resources across as many young people as possible. While we will consider applications for equipment, we are unlikely to fund high‑cost items that many Groups typically need at the same time, such as large tents, as this would not represent an effective or equitable use of our funds.
These items are often required during the same peak activity periods, which makes central provision or sharing impractical. For this reason, the Fund generally does not support this type of purchase and expects Groups to obtain such equipment through their own local fundraising.
However, where equipment is genuinely shareable and likely to see regular use across multiple Groups, the Fund may support higher‑value or specialist items on the basis that they are held centrally, or by an agreed custodian, and made available for wider use.
